ABOUT US

GILES EMAUS is a small home based cattery that breeds and raises silver and bronze Egyptian Maus with Champion, Grand Champion, Regional winning lines! We are located in Laurel, MD a suburb of Washington, DC. Our Maus are raised in our home as part of our family, with our twin boys and our adopted pet cat and dog.

The Giles grew up with cats, dogs and horses. We bred, raised, trained and showed horses. I gained in-depth experience with cats when I bred Persian cats with my mother years ago, as a hobby.

My husband and I knew we would raise cats again when the time was right. We decided to raise Egyptian Maus after having seen some of these exquisite splendors of nature, at a cat show. We had twin boys 10 years ago and had our hands full for several years. However, when the twins started school and I was left home all day alone, I decided that the time had come to start our Mau cattery! Our cattery was featured in The Laurel Gazette in Nov 2005, with pictures and a wonderful article. Article is framed above pictures of our queen named, Egyptian Sandstorm.

Our cattery goal is to strive for show quality kittens that will also make loving and gentle pets. Our cats and kittens are never caged, we raise them in an open home environment. Our cattery is registered with CFA and TICA.

All of our kittens are sold under contract and kittens come fully innoculated with a shot record; a complete pedigree, CFA registration papers upon proof of spay/neuter and a kitten starter kit and a veterinarian's health certificate. They also come with a one year genetic guarantee. We offer beautiful, high-quality kittens at an affordable price, so that more people can enjoy the ownership of these magnificent creatures of nature! With our family name in the title, we believe very strongly in customer satisfaction and will strive hard to ensure your happiness with your new kitten. A copy of our contract can be forwarded to you upon request.

ABOUT THE BREED
The Egyptian Mau is a fascinating cat, not only because of its past history, but because of its engaging personality and striking appearance. These gorgeous creatures are truly one of God’s most spectacular creations! The Egyptian Mau has the distinction of being the only NATURAL spotted breed of domestic cat. All of the other spotted cats have been crossbred by man. The Egyptian Mau (Mau is the Egyptian word for cat) has been clearly identified in the artwork of the ancient Egyptians. Spotted cats were often depicted in ancient Egyptian wall paintings dating back over 3,000 years and many believe these to be the true ancestors of the Egyptian Mau. The ancient Egyptians held these cats in great esteem and respect. They were worshipped as deities, cherished as pets, then mummified and mourned upon their death.

The Egyptian Mau as a breed descends from two cats rescued after WWII in Italy. An exiled Russian Princess received a Mau from the Egyptian Consulate and this cat became the foundation of the breed. Egyptian Mau's descends from the cats worshiped by the ancient Egyptians.

Maus are extremely intelligent animals and place great importance on their human and cat families. They are very loving and loyal creatures. They are great companions! Their actions can be compared to that of dogs, in some cases. Maus are often amenable to training to a harness and lead. They are moderately active and often express their happiness by chortling in a soft melodious voice (they love to hear your voice and talk back to you!). They often wiggle their tails while kneading their forepaws. The Mau has an elegant body that is randomly spotted, banded legs and tail with engaging, deep green gooseberry eyes. They sometimes have a "worried" expression. They are always a big hit at cat shows! These athletic cats are considered the fastest breed of domestic cat. Maus have been clocked running over 30 mph.

The most common Mau colors are: silver, bronze, smoke, black and blue. Many people consider silver the most striking color. Pricing on Egyptian Maus usually depends on confirmation, markings and bloodlines. These rare, exotic and beautiful cats need to be kept indoors and should be neutered or spayed.

SHOWING
GILES EMAUS is registered in CFA and TICA, and our cats and kittens are shown in both organizations.

KITTEN POLICY
We wait until the kitten has established it’s own independence before going to their new home, as this will make the kitten more loving and confident.

If you are interested in reserving a GILES EMAUS kitten from our next litter, we are accepting reservations and you will be placed on our waiting list on a first come, first served basis. We have a limited number of litters each year as our queens are only bred when they are strong and healthy. We have a kitten questionnaire to help us match the perfect kitten to it's prospective new family.

If you want to reserve a specific kitten, color and/or sex, you need to place a deposit on the kitten. The $200.00 deposit is NOT-REFUNDABLE. We will refund the deposit if we do not supply the kitten within the agreed upon time.

We don't breed for profit. The sales proceeds go toward quality cat food, toys, equipment, vet bills, showing and travel expenses and acquiring top quality show cat lines to be used in our breeding program. Also, if you are ever unable to keep your cat or kitten, for any reason in the future, we request that it be returned to us.

PAYMENT: We accept cash, bank money orders, cashier's checks and Pay Pal. Personal checks are accepted for deposits only.

SHIPPING: We can ship, but prefer to place locally. Specific shipping arrangements will be determined in advance and confirmed to Buyer by Breeder, with the cat/kittens best welfare in mind. This contract must be returned with payment (including shipping fee) prior to cat/kitten being shipped.
